Map copyright Ordance Survey Summary A circular walk that starts at the village of Embsay. The route takes you out of the village up to Embsay Reservoir before climbing up to Crookrise Crag. From here you walk along the western edge of Rylstone Fell, past Rylstone Cross and Cracoe War Memorial to Rolling Gate Nook. Here you pick up a shooting track that takes you round Burnsall and Thorpe Fell and Down Simm Bottom to Nelly Park Wood. The return takes you over Low Barden Reservoir, up Halton Heights and Embsay Crag before walking back down the reservoir road into Embsay A good walk with opportunities to lengthen the walk - to Thorpe/ Burnsall or change direction going to Cracoe and Rylstone. You can shorten the route coming down via Eastby rather than going onto Embsay Crag. Route finding is straight forward and there are good paths and tracks all the way round. There are always lots of grouse and pheasant on the tops You can select either to look at the text of the walk (Text Only) or read my diary and summary of the walk (Diary) |
