The walk starts from the Tissington and walks on road and over fields to Thorpe and onto The Stepping Stones in Dovedale. The route then walks up Dovedale to Ilam Rock from where you climb out of the valley, walk round the western side of Bunster Hill before dropping down to Ilam. You leave Ilam through Ilam Park before crossing the River Manifold and climbing up and out of the valley to Upper Musden. The route then drops and circumvents Blore before picking up the Limestone Way. A good track now takes you over Coldwell Bridge to Thorpe and onto the Tissington trail. It's then a short march back to the car along the trail.
A good walk on clear paths and tracks but with a lot of detail for the navigator. There are excellent views of Bunster hill and Thorpe Cloud. Dovedale is always magical except for the people. There are some pretty villages – Ilam in particular – and a number of pleasant places to stop, rest and slumber.
