A Dash of Snow

Summary

The walk starts at Lofthouse and takes you up to Middlesmoor and across to Scar House Reservoir. From there you go up and over Little Whernside and down to the top of Angram Reservoir. After walking down the northern side of Angram you cross to the southern side and walk down Scar House reservoir where you join the road and walk back to Lofthouse. The walk has good views on the tops and the route finding is reasonably easy.

A pleasant walk with easy route finding. Normally you would drop down from the coll between Little Whernside and Great Whernside using a path initially marked by posts and via Angram and High Pastures to Lodge, but on this walk you drop down and walk over moorland to the top of Angram reservoir where there is no path; this section can be quite hard going.

The paths and tracks are generally OK except over Little Whernside, where in wet periods it can be hard going becasue of the peat, and over the moorland stretch to the top of Angram reservoir

We did it after heavy snow so the walk was wonderful but extremely physical and slow. The conditions made the walk hard but showed the moors off to their perfect best. You can easily under estimate how difficult and demanding the conditions are. You get seduced by the beauty of the virgin snow, the brilliance of a clear sky and with the sun low the views it creates. But beware you can quickly get out of your depth.
