Map copyright Ordance Survey Summary The walk that starts in the quiet village of Arncliffe. The route traces Monks Road to Malham Tarn where it picks up the Pennine Way which it follows up and over Fountians Fell and down into Sliverdale. From here the route leaves the Pennine Way and tracks down the lovely valley of Pen-y-ghent Gill to Nether Hesleden in Littondale. The final section walks down Littondale past Litton to Arncliffe. It's a lovely walk with great views from Fountains Fell. Cowside Beck looks a hidden gem; it's a pity that the path goes up the side of the beck rather than along its line. Malham brings civilization and one of Yorkshires three natural lakes. The route down Pen-y-ghent Gill is another gem. Finally, the walk down Littondale is an autumn classic. Everyone should walk down it at this time of the year. The route is easy to follow, even in mist. It's mainly grassy paths and tracks although it can be a little muddy in places.
